We opened the Media Box Raleigh office just over a year ago, and one of the main reasons we chose this location was to tap into and join this city's thriving creative community.  SPARKcon is an annual "Open Source" festival and showcase of creative talent in the Triangle area that embodies the dynamism of collaboration, thought, and creativity that brought us here in the first place.

I had the opportunity to participate with other artists in a SPARKcon exhibit called the Experimental Video Lounge.  Together with my friend Tom Drewes, I created a piece titled "Wenotype" that could be described as an animated, interactive, evolutionary, generative artwork.  The piece uses analog buttons and a rotary knob connected to an Arduino microcontroller and laptop running a Flash Actionscript program, which allows viewers to evolve a randomly generated canvas by selecting their favorite "children" and adjusting the amount of genetic variation from generation to generation.

SPARKcon was a great success, and I look forward to future collaborations with other Raleigh creatives throughout the community!
